Inflation In April Climbed .4% Fueled By Continued Cost Increases In Housing

Driven by a blistering 8.1% annual rate of price increases for shelter, the overall consumer price index in April 2023 increased by .4% to post an annual rate of 4.9% according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The index for shelter was the largest contributor to the monthly all items increase, followed by increases in
the index for used cars and trucks and the index for gasoline.

The measure for housing costs has been a leading driver of consumer price inflation for all of 2023 so far as it was in 2022 and earlier.
