Vast Majority Of High School Graduates Enrolled In College, Many Working

Recent high school graduates are enrolling in college and finding success while regularly over one in three work to support their education.

This good news is witnessed across demographic lines with 85.9% of Asian, 61.2% of African American, 61% of ‘white’, and 58.6% of Hispanic recent high school graduates enrolling in college according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate of college attendance before and after lockdowns was nearly identical with both being over 61% of the population as a whole.

47.7% of students enrolled in a two year college were employed outside of their educational pursuits while 27% of their peers at four year schools were part of the labor market. In addition, 70% of recent high school graduates enrolled in college attended four year schools.

Among all recent high school graduates, 69% of females and 54% of males were enrolled in college.
