All Top 25 American Newspapers Lost Print Circulation With All But 3 Losing In Double Digits

Only three newspapers, the San Francisco Chronicle, The Honolulu Advertiser, and the New York Post (which is now the nation’s third largest daily as measured by print) were the only three mastheads to fall by single digits with all other brands falling by double digits and often by more than 20% over 2023.

While the loss in daily print circulation continues a trend started decades ago, it continued through the extremely crowded news cycles of 2023 which include major wars, inflation and economic pressures, and protracted political issues in Congress and nationally.
In addition, while many of the top 25 newspaper organizations have used online subscriptions to supplement and in many cases surpass losses in print circulation, print advertising at most papers still accounts for over half of all revenue.
