No Charge But Definitely Not Free: Only 10% of Critical Supply Chain In Place for Electric Cars

A supply chain shortfall of up to 9X of what is necessary for lithium batteries from mines through production and recycling threatens to hold back wide scale government required plans in California and elsewhere for adoption of electric zero emission vehicles according to the CEO of Rivian, the Wall Street Journal reports.

With the global supply chain for batteries stretching globally from the leading mines globally for lithium being in South America to processing and manufacturing facilities in Asia and North America, the need to scale lithium battery production and recycling by 2030 to support California’s mandate that only new zero emission vehicles be sold within the largest state in the union is more crucial than ever.
