Port Of LA Going Green: Methanol Powered Maersk Ship Christened

Maersk continued the Port of Los Angeles move towards ever lower levels of environmental impacts with the christening of a methanol powered container ship reported the Marin Independent Journal.

Taken together with its sister port in neighboring Long Beach, the two ports of the San Pedro Bay impact one of every two jobs in the United States, and 1 in 7 jobs in Southern California. Known universally as one of the highest cost locations in the nation and one of the cleanest, Southern California has built hundreds of thousands of careers in smart manufacturing and goods movement from the well organized and close proximity of the ports.

Since the early 1980’s Southern California has replaced the smoke stacks of some of the world’s largest steel mills, car plants, and furniture manufacturers with much cleaner smart manufacturers and data driven jobs that are continually changing in nature from internet expansion in the early 1990’s to artificial intelligence today.

The continuing efforts at the ports to continue to cut and manage emissions and impacts while at the same time increasing efficient output and handling of freight is a key story in California and across the West and we are tracking it closely.

The Association of Western Employers is dedicated to helping employers of all types to create career building job opportunities while helping employees develop those careers because every American deserves the opportunity for a great career.
