As the world struggles with declining birthrates that have seemed to speed up since the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, the US overall birthrate has dropped at a net rate of over 1% annually between 2007 and 2021 with a small recovery in 2021. At current rates, not figuring immigration into future population growth, the 2021 birthrate is on track to generate some 45-50 million fewer births long term than the basic birthrate from 1990 through 2007.

As many demographers have pointed out, lower birthrates while first taking hold in Europe and East Asia have begun to establish themselves globally regardless of geographic location, economic status, or other demography. In the case of the United States, the birthrate dropped by 15.3% between 2007 and 2021.

We have tracked the story of population shifts for several years now and will continue to follow it closely and the demography and chart above were published by Statista. We will continue to keep you updated on this important story.
